With his 14th goal, Dempsey passed Louis Saha and set a new Fulham high for most goals in a Premier League campaign.

The Fulham FC star scored in Monday's 1-1 draw against Chelsea FC. He leads English soccer's top flight (along with Newcastle's "Africa Day" hero Papiss Cisse) with 10 goals in 2012. It brings his goal haul for the season to an impressive 16 in the league, and 22 in all competitions.

The Texan's 22 goals also set a new, single-season high for an American player playing abroad, according to US Soccer. In 2007-08, Michael Bradley scored 21 for Dutch club SC Heerenveen.

"I think he's a very important player over the last couple of years and is very productive," Jol told Sky Sports. "You can play him on the left and he will score goals, you can play him up front, although it is not his favourite position, but on Saturday he held the ball up well and today again, and if you get the delivery he's one of the best I know."

Dempsey has a big decision to make. His sixth season with the club is coming to a close, and he wants to play in the UEFA Champions League. Fulham has offered him a new contract, but his goals are creating a market for his services. He may test it sooner rather than later. But his immediate task is to keep on doing what he has been doing better than anyone else.

Dempsey's dream season will continue amid speculation that he could leave the club in the summer. His contract expires in 2013, and a sizable offer from another club could see Fulham cash in on the scoring ace rather than lose him as a free agent in a year's time.

The 29-year-old has progressed from a shaggy-haired rookie with the New England Revolution to a bona-fide Premier League star. Fulham manager Martin Jol heaped praise on the American international following Monday's game.
